David BraniganDavid co-founded the initial Scholarship Program and he helped coordinate the development of Equal Chance in Songornya. David lived for three and a half years in Songornya as a Health, Water and Sanitation Peace Corps Volunteer - 2002-2006. The focus of David's work in Songornya was to support the development of local democratic organizations that effect positive community change, to support a youth theater group - the Songornya United Youth Club - that performed and educated throughout the district on HIV/AIDS and Sexual Health, and to support a livestock income generation project with the Ghana Association of the Blind Dangme East Branch and Heifer International. In order to receive donations for the Scholarship program which evolved into Equal Chance, David liaised with the Presbyterian Church of Ghana and also with the Memorial Presbyterian Church of Fox Chase (MPCFC) in David's hometown. Currently, David is living in Philadelphia and is working to organize more donations for the Equal Chance Scholarships, preparing to register Equal Chance as a 501(c)3 Non-Profit Charitable Organization in the USA, and looking to apply for more substantial funds from foundations. He is in continual contact with the Equal Chance Board members in Songornya. David can be reached at dbranigan@equalchanceghana.org. The Memorial Presbyterian Church of Fox Chase (MPCFC)MPCFC graciously accepted to administratively support Equal Chance fundraising efforts. While still in Ghana, David appealed to the Presbyterian Church of Ghana to verify the authenticity of our programs to MPCFC, who then agreed to receive tax-deductible donations on behalf of Equal Chance, and to forward them in full to the Equal Chance Bank account in Accra, Ghana. MPCFC opened a bank account in Fox Chase specifically for Equal Chance funds, and have steadfastly continued to help with the transfer of donations from the USA to Ghana. When Equal Chance is registered as a Non-Profit in the USA, we will be able to directly receive tax-deductible donations. Without the support from MPCFC, Equal Chance may never have had the opportunity to grow into what it is today, and into what it will surely become. |
